Traditional dance music, wedding music and laments include a clarinet soloist and quite often improvisations. There is some debate on the name English horn, because the instrument is neither English nor does it look anything like a horn. Large-diaphragm mics also tend to reject sounds arriving from the sides better than small-diaphragm mics, so chances are they will do a better job of not picking up the other instruments in the room. Meridian Winds has been providing quality repair and restoration services for band instruments since 1984.

I'd study his scores as well... there are a number of great composers you can look at and study. I wish you all the best with writing for winds. There is a lot of theory and lots of densely written texts on the subject but ultimately it is down to the composer's tastes. Rather than try to explain when and why I use winds (which is fairly often, based on my latest work at least), I suggest instead you take a listen to some music Raymonda, Op.57 (Pas de Six: Le Cortege hongrois): Clarinet 1, 2 and 3 parts [A8909] click Raymonda, Op.57 (Pas de Six: Le Cortege hongrois): Clarinet 1, 2 and 3 parts [A8909]. The longest wave is its lowest note, so let's calculate. This gives a frequency (speed divided by wavelength) of c/2L = 280 Hz. Given the crude approximations we are making, this is close to the frequency of middle C, the lowest note on a flute. (See this site to convert between pitches and frequencies, and flute acoustics for more about flute acoustics.) Note that we can also fit in waves that equal the length of the flute (half the fundamental wavelength so twice the frequency of the fundamental), 2/3 the length of the flute (one third the fundamental wavelength so three times the frequency of the fundamental), 1/2 the length of the flute (one quarter the wavelength so four times the frequency of the fundamental) , e.g. Symphony No.2, Op.43: Clarinet read for free Symphony No.2, Op.43: Clarinet 1 part (Qty 2) [A2048] pdf, azw (kindle).
