While many are installed above the floor, they are generally considered to be floor mounted by design. Primary voltages are 208, 240, 277, or 480 V. Secondary voltages are 277 for lighting-only circuits. Some provide 208 V for motor loads, while the majority provides 120 V for general outlet and lighting use. Several different methods are used in the manufacture of dry-type transformers. The differences considered here are the insulation of the windings. The following are the more common ones. Open Wound The standard “dip-and-bake” conductor coils are heated, then dipped in a varnish and baked in an oven until cured.

Some members of this family of devices may have setpoints well above those that can provide protection of people [4 to 6 milliamperes (mA)], that is, setting in the area above 30 mA to as high as 500 mA(onehalf of one ampere). An RCD that is intended to protect an appliance power cord will typically have a setting of some 30 mA. Some of these devices can offer protection even when an equipment grounding conductor is not present, as they operate not on current flow over the EGC, but upon a current imbalance between the two normal current-carrying conductors of the circuit, such as the hot and the neutral.
