Several CPC leaders, many of whom were Jewish, called for a new relationship with the Soviets that would be more independent. They called for the resignation of Stalinist CPC leader Buck. B. Salsberg, comprised a majority of the CPC national committee. However, they failed to consolidate their movement, and in the antirevisionist reaction that swept through international communism, allowed the Stalinists in the CPC to drive the revisionists out of the party. Salsberg resigned in 1957. The party rebounded in the 1960s.
